 Hurricane Ike slammed into Cuba, the second major storm to hit the island in a little over a week, making landfall in the eastern province of Holguin as a major Category Three hurricane, weather officials said.

 I just wanted to post that the people of Costa Verde are all OK. They had quite a scare and it's a mess. But I am glad no one was hurt.

From what our source who was at the hotel last night said, it will take years to rebulid Guardalavaca

he went to his room in the villa today, his room is full of water and rocks outside of his room. walking to his room was a challange-depree everywhere!

windows were blown out & roof's blown off & alot of damage from debris ramming the buildings...but they were still standing.....

Salut funnyman, je cherche une destination pour avril 2009 et j'ai vu sur VAR le club Amigo au prix que je cherche car nous partons avec nos trois enfants 15,19 et 22 ans.

Est-ce un beau site? propre (en oubliant se qu'ils vivent aujourd'hui) et avec activités pour nos jeunes? Les diaporamas présentent un site bien mais avec une petite plage?

he hotel is not a place to stay right now, the last time i talked to my father he said there was no electricity/water. but then again its a day after the storm, what happns in a week from now i dont know .

Carole ok i just got off the phone with E who works at the front desk, he lives in the guardalavaca apartments .

there was nobody killed but a lot of people really shaken up and yes, flamboyanes etc. all destroyed and nowhere for them to get supplies right now .

All the trees are gone,The airconditioners are all over the place. Most of the roofs are gone.

Most of the buildings are still there.....they are badly damaged.

My mom and her boyfrind travel to Club Amigo Guardalavaca often to visit Cuban friends and have a Canadian friend there right now visiting his Cuban girlfriend. They just got a call from him and told them the whole resort is pretty much gone and what's left has 5 feet of water in it. Also the Las Brisas next door has 5 feet of water in it. The Cuban friends they have also lost all their homes(they weren't very well structured to begin with) This is all a message from my mom(Messages can change as the story gets told from one person to the next)

Just thought I would update incase anyone is planning on going there in the next few days....or weeks....or months? Who knows how long it will take to fix the devastation from this terrible Hurricane.

I am going to MCSM in 3 weeks and plan to take as much as my weight limit will let me to help the Cuban people at this time.

we have been trying to contact our friends in Guardalavaca all day and just got through a couple of hours ago. Apparently, almost all of the houses in El Cayuelo neighborhood have been destroyed, as has the old commercial centre, parts of Flamboyanes, and many other houses in Guardalavaca. All the hotel windows in Atlantico and neighboring hotels have been broken. Much destruction, much suffering, although nobody lost their life, which is most important of all. Also, no electricity and limited phone lines, people are trying to use up everything in their refigerators before it goes bad.

 Hurricane Ike ripped across Cuba, with monster waves and torrential rains that left four people dead as it swept across the storm-battered island.

Officials here said Ike killed three men and a woman -- a relatively rare event in a country which prides itself on its preparedness in facing down the hurricane season's annual tempests

Ventura visited hospitals in the city of Holguin accompanied by the president of the Defense Council of the province, Miguel Diaz Canel. No human loss has been reported so far.

Fallen trees blocked several streets in the city, while damaged houses and downed electric poles were the most visible effects in the town, according to local reports.

Since early Monday morning, communication workers and electric crews began working to re-establish those services in the city of more than 300,000 inhabitants.

Ike made its landfall as a category 4 hurricane at Lucrecia Point, in the eastern province of Holguin on Sunday evening. Its center is currently located off the South coast of Ciego de Avila province and moving towards the west. It is expected to head up to the west-northwest within the coming twelve hours.
